About Bagel Boss

If you've lived on Long Island for more than a week, someone has probably told you to try Bagel Boss. And they were right. For nearly 50 years, this family-owned chain has been the benchmark for what a bagel should be: crispy on the outside, perfectly chewy on the inside, and made fresh every single morning using time-honored techniques.

The Bagel Boss story starts in 1975 when founder Andrew Chernoff opened his first shop in Hicksville with a simple mission: make bagels the old-fashioned way. That means hand-rolling each one, boiling them in kettles (not steaming like the imposters), and baking them in stone-deck ovens. It's more labor-intensive, but the difference shows in every bite.

Today, with multiple locations across Nassau County, Bagel Boss has grown but never compromised. The same techniques, the same commitment to quality, the same absurdly delicious everything bagel with scallion cream cheese that's gotten countless Long Islanders through their Monday mornings.

Beyond bagels, their deli counter is legendary in its own right. The lox is silky and perfectly salted. The whitefish salad is made in-house daily. And their Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel is arguably Long Island's greatest breakfast sandwich.

"I moved to California and the thing I miss most is Bagel Boss. No exaggeration. I have them ship frozen bagels to me every month. Nothing out here comes close."

"Sunday morning tradition for 15 years. The line can get long but it moves fast. Pro tip: call ahead for big orders. The whitefish salad is insanely good."

"I was skepticalβ€”I'm from Brooklyn and thought I knew bagels. I was wrong. These are the real deal. The crust has that perfect crunch. Converted customer for life."
